# SHEKEL Token & Staking

> Stake SHEKEL on Base to earn ongoing passive credit rewards

The SHEKEL token is Shekel's native token on Base network. Staking SHEKEL earns you a daily allocation of credits — proportional to your share of the total staked supply.

## How Daily Credits Work

A fixed pool of credits is distributed every 24 hours to all stakers, proportional to stake.

The daily pool size is displayed on the Token Dashboard in the app. As more SHEKEL is staked, the per-token credit rate changes — staking earlier locks in a larger share.

## How to Stake

<Steps>
  <Step title="Connect Your Wallet">
    Go to **Account → Connect Wallet** to link an EVM-compatible wallet (Phantom, MetaMask, Coinbase, or any WalletConnect wallet).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Verify Your Wallet">
    Sign a message to link your connected wallet to your Shekel agent account. This is a gasless signature — it doesn't authorize any transfer. Required to receive staking credit rewards.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Get SHEKEL">
    Buy SHEKEL on [Uniswap (Base)](https://app.uniswap.org) or [app.shekel.xyz/tokens](https://app.shekel.xyz/tokens). Make sure you have a small amount of ETH on Base for gas.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Stake">
    Go to **SHEKEL Token** in the app. Enter the amount to stake and tap **Stake**.

    If this is your first time staking, you'll see two wallet prompts: first to approve the token spend, then to stake. This is normal.

## Unstaking

Enter the amount to unstake and tap **Unstake**. Unstaking begins a **cooldown period** — the duration is shown inline with the unstake input.

  Unstaking is not immediate. Your SHEKEL enters a cooldown queue and cannot be traded or moved during this period.

Once the cooldown completes, your SHEKEL appears as a **claimable tranche** in the Pending Unstakes section. Tap **Claim** to receive your tokens back to your wallet.

## Rewards

Accumulated SHEKEL staking rewards are shown in the **Rewards** section of the Token Dashboard. Tap **Claim** to collect them to your wallet at any time.

Rewards are in SHEKEL tokens. The APR shown on the dashboard is annualized and based on current staking pool size and reward rate.

## APR

Staking APR is displayed on the Token Dashboard and updated in real time. APR varies based on:

* Total SHEKEL staked (larger stake = lower APR per token, same total pool)
* Current reward stream status (active vs. inactive)

The APR is displayed as inactive if the current reward distribution period has ended and a new one hasn't started.
